Hertingfordbury Parish News: May 2004
Stansted Airport
IMAGINE STANSTED AIRPORT BEING BIGGER THAN HEATHROW and the effect this would have on Hertingfordbury and the Greens – and we are outside the immediate zone. If the airport expands there will be five times the number of aircraft landing and taking off; up to 65,000 airport-related staff travelling to and from work each day' 80 million passengers travelling to and from the airport each year by road and rail' nearly 50,000 extra houses, at least, built in local towns and villages; thousands of acres of local countryside concreted over to make way for the larger airport site and for the new road and rail links, warehouses, office blocks, hotels, distribution centres and other airport related facilities including car parking…….it is a pretty bleak picture. Locally we've seen the inappropriate use of a country road (B158) by huge lorries, and when we consider that John Prescott is proposing a huge house building scheme in the A10 and A11 corridors it must be right to wonder what will be left of the Hertfordshire we all chose to live in. Do we want further development over to the East? If your answer is NO you can find out more information on the Government's White Paper and the threat we face on: http://www.stopstanstedexpansion.com/.Please note: Although the Hertingfordbury Parish News is produced by St. Mary's PCC, the opinions expressed by contributors are not necessarily those of the PCC.
