Hertingfordbury Parish News: December 2008

Hertingfordbury Women’s Institute

Within minutes of being introduced, Dr Tony Maisey had everyone screaming with laughter at Hertingfordbury W.I.'s recent meeting.  Little wonder, for he was passing around all sorts of 'spare parts' and was regaling some hilarious anecdotes as members were given their first, and hopefully their last, sight of such things as glass eyes, hip replacement joints, breast implants and a variety of the bags used for managing the body's waste products.  Dr Maisey went on to give an insight into the workings of the NHS, the problems that confront doctors and the ethics of decision making.  "Deciding who should get what and when can be very complex," he said.  Dawn Webb gave the vote of thanks for an excellent and entertaining evening.

President Linda Coleman welcomed new member Patricia Brent, then went on to inform members that there is to be a seat in the village for Meg Fewkes as a tribute to her work for the Parish of Hertingfordbury.  With Christmas fast approaching, several W.I.s are arranging 'Carol Parties' complete with tea and mince pies - and Hertingfordbury's festive lunch is at The Papillon on Wednesday 3 December.

Doreen Vigus has just returned from a holiday in Canada and whilst there she was invited to a meeting of the Fishers Corner Women's Institute.  Doreen then gave a very entertaining account of this meeting.

Our 90th birthday celebrations are well underway for Tuesday 27 January 2009.  Elizabeth Dodwell has already made the birthday cake which weights 16lb.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday 16 December at 7.30 - visitors are very welcome.
