Hertingfordbury and the Greens' Recreation Ground Fete 2002
Another dry day and another good day! Although the fete was not very well attended, it went extremely smoothly and made £2,250.00 approximately. The Recreation Ground belongs to the people of the Parish of Hertingfordbury and it is the fete which raises the funds to cover the very high insurance policies, and to look after the whole property. This year we were very pleased to have Jack and Jim the Shire horses on the field, not as before representing Glaxo but this time brought to us by Capel Manor where they are now based. St Alban's City Brass Band gave the afternoon its normal lilt, rather more audibly than usual due to some new technology. This however blanked out the section of the field by the plant stall, so that Robert Maunder Taylor, with roving microphone and in fact when Waring Robinson opened the fete this area heard not a word! Blip to be put right next year. We thank Shepherd's the Estate Agents for their continuing sponsorship, and also Longmores Solicitors for sponsoring the Band. We were pleased to have with us the Hertford Division of St John Ambulance who only had to deal with one cut fmger. Graham Smith and his family saved the day by putting up the marquee they kindly lent us for the Band (not part of the deal, we were to collect and put it up and down!), McMullen's and Charles Hawley also need our thanks. Many contribute to ensure that the fete happens; the WI, cake bakers, stall holders, side-show people, chipped china suppliers, coconut givers (J. Wentworth), trolley lenders, bottle collectors, plant growers, people who obligingly sort through their books and find white elephants in their attics: some live here other don't, but to all, the Trustees are extremely grateful. Having the help of Tony, Jason and Marc has made all the difference to the fete. They cart and carry with apparent ease and are magnificent. Grateful thanks to all those who helped set up and dismantle the fete. You made an excellent team. Thank you too to all who attended and we look forward to seeing you on 21 June 2003!Please note: Although the Hertingfordbury Parish News is produced by St. Mary's PCC, the opinions expressed by contributors are not necessarily those of the PCC.
