Hertingfordbury Parish News: May 2004
Handbells
I wish to thank all the children who participated in ringing the handbells this year, and for all the practice put in during November and December. I wish to thank my family, without whom the practices and performances would not be possible. Finally, thank you to Rosemary and the parents for their continued support.
Fund Raising for Repair of Handbells
The handbells have been in regular use over the years, and with little or no maintenance work. The wear and tear has not only affected their cosmetic appearance, but their ability to be rung and the overall tune. Rosemary with the 'Easter Club' raised £325, which paid for the handles of the tune bells to be replaced. However, inspection of the bells by Whitechapel Bell Foundry highlighted other areas in need of serious maintenance work. I feel it is important to keep what I feel is a unique parish resource in good working condition. They provide entertainment to all age groups in the community. I have already had offers of support from the parents of the children who are currently ringing, and we will look to offer fund-raising events this year in order to raise money, and we look forward to your support. We have currently raised £100 from a raffle run, whilst ringing in the White Horse Hotel, and £30 from Carol Singing around Birch Green.
Donations
I would be grateful for any donations (large or small), towards repair of the handbells. Please make cheques payable to St Mary's PCC; the funds will go into the Church's bank account and thus we can claim gift aid. Please contact myself for the forms and all donations pleased sent to me. Thank you in anticipation.
