The Oil that "Got Away"
Anyone who has attended St Mary's Church recently, may or may not have left shivering! During the summer, unbeknown to anyone, the oil was slowly leaking from the oil tank in the churchyard. We are now in the hands of the Environmental Agency, and we are involved in paying thousands of pounds to correct the situation and deal with the contamination caused. It is a most unfortunate, extremely expensive situation and a dreadful position to be in, when we are trying to gather the funds for a meeting room and a lavatory at the church. The decision has been made to convert the church boiler to gas, but the lengthy wait to have the gas installed has meant that we are currently heating the church in a way that is purely temporary, and at times rather unreliable. The Church Wardens and PCC thank everyone who has been thoroughly chilled, for their patience and forbearance over this. Please note: Although the Hertingfordbury Parish News is produced by St. Mary's PCC, the opinions expressed by contributors are not necessarily those of the PCC.
