The Churchyard
Bulbs and SMALL ANNUAL plants only may be planted in the turf on a grave. Wreaths or cut flowers may be laid DIRECTLY on any grave or in an authorised vase. The Clergy, Churchwardens and members of the PCC may remove them when they appear to be withered.
NO ARTIFICIAL flowers should be placed in the Churchyard. The Clergy, Churchwardens or members of the PCC may remove them without warning. (December, (Christmas) to Epiphany 6th January, is a local exception to this rule). After January 5th ALL Christmas tributes will be removed.
No grave shall include any kerb, stones, surrounds, fencing, chippings, statuary, photographs, sundials or bird baths; nor shall the Headstone be shaped in the form of a book or a heart. FAMILIES are responsible for the maintenance and safety of all plaques and Headstones.
CREMATED REMAINS: Garden plots around the plaques are NOT permitted under any circumstances. The area set aside for the Interment of Ashes is that contained within the authorised size of the plaque, 18" x 12" (46 cms x 30 cms).
These regulations are taken from The Dioceses of St. Albans Handbook. A copy of the regulations is on the notice board in the Church Porch. Individual copies are available from The Clergy or Churchwardens.
