Seeds for Africa
This is the Harvest Appeal that we have chosen to support this year. As you are aware our support has been for Prideax House for several years; however this year they are undergoing major building works and are unable to receive our offerings. So SEEDS FOR AFRICA is our chosen charity. The MISSION STATEMENT of this organisation is as follows: To relieve and advance the education of needy families in Africa, by provision of vegetable seed agricultural equipment and relevant advice. As we look around our green and fertile land we should be aware of the desperate needs of others. PLEASE SUPPORT GENEROUSLY AT OUR HARVEST FESTIVAL SERVICE ON SUNDAY 13th OCTOBER AT 10 AM. The appeal is headed by Alan Titchmarsh MBE (of Ground Force fame) and below is part of his appeal. Rev'd Rosemary ALAN TITCHMARSH HARVEST FESTIVAL APPEAL 2002 Seeds for Africa aims to help needy families by the provision of vegetable seeds, agricultural equipment and technical advice. Over the last year with the help of churches of all denominations the charity has been able to establish 270 primary school vegetable gardens. Projects have been set up in the following countries: Morocco, Ethiopia, Sudan, Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Botswana, Congo, Madagascar, Uganda and South Africa. The charity wishes to network this programme throughout Africa. I write to ask if your church members would consider supporting the work of SEEDS FOR AFRICA during HARVEST FESTIVAL 2002. LET US CELEBRATE THE HARVEST IN THE UK AND AFRICA Each school vegetable garden costs between £100 and £200 to set up. We have also established three MOTHER FRUIT TREE NURSERIES in Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda. In three years time each nursery will provide fruit trees that will enable schools to establish orchards. Each nursery costs between £500 and £1000 to set up. When I became Patron of the charity it struck me as an important and worthwhile cause particularly in terms of its aims of imparting skills. People say that knowledge is power and my answer to that is that knowledge is only power if you give it away because it empowers. I think SEEDS FOR AFRICA is the personification of that. Your support would be much appreciated. God Bless You All.
