Hertingfordbury Parish News: October 2003
Music at St. Mary's
The QC Chamber Choir returns to St Mary's, Hertingfordbury on Saturday 1st November . In addition to their voices, the programme will contain music for solo 'cello (played by Andrew Skidmore). Derek Harrison who directs the choir (and also the Hertford Choral Society) believes that the contrast of music for voices and then for solo instrument greatly enriches the quality and pleasure of the choir's programme.
The programme is typical for a QC concert spreading widely across the centuries and taking in music for the concert hall as well as for the church. From earlier times will be movements from a Mass by the 16th century Spanish composer, Morales. These will be interspersed with motets by contemporary composers including Jonathan Dove. Other composers include Dvorak (Songs of Nature), Britten (Gloriana Dances) and Kodaly with his most colourful Matra Pictures.
QC will shortly be releasing a CD – "A New Song" – which celebrates their first ten years. A member of St Mary's, Diana Salthouse, sings with QC and will be part of what promises to be an entertaining and stimulating programme on 1st November.
Tickets £7 (children free) obtainable from Susan Hitch.
