Music at St. Mary's

There have been two concerts in this series at St. Mary's recently. On 19th October the string quartet "Anything Goes" played a varied programme ranging from Mozart to Borodin, and were joined by Colin Eldred for a clarinet quartet by Crussell, which though less well-known, proved to be just as easy to listen to as the more familiar works, and the musicians were well supported by an enthusiastic audience. On 3rd November, we had a return visit by the Heath Mount Singers, who under their conductor David Boarder gave us another delightful programme of music of all ages, and included some instrumental solos played with impressive technique by members of the East Herts Youth Orchestra. Both evenings began with a warming glass of wine for those who wanted it, and the temporary chililin St. Mary's was quite forgotten in enjoyment. The next date to note: The next concert in the series will be on Sunday, January 5th, and will be given by the well-known local group, The Mimram Singers, conducted by Val Hurford. This will be the end of the Christmas season, and so the singers will be rounding it off with a programme of carols and readings chosen for that time. Tickets are £5 and £3 from Christopher Maunder Taylor (01992 505189) or Susan Hitch (01992 583934), and we look forward to a convivial as well as a musical evening.
