Hertingfordbury Parish News: December 2003
Christmas Bazaar
Kay Juniper and Jane Brooke would like to record their thanks to all those who helped with the Bazaar, to those who quietly did all the hard work of the decorating and putting up the tables beforehand, to all those behind the scenes, particularly those in the kitchen who dealt with the excellent refreshments, to the stall holders themselves, particularly to the smartly turned out children of Hertingfordbury Cowper School for their wonderful singing which set the atmosphere most splendidly, and to the parishioners and other visitors who kindly supported the Bazaar and thanks also to Father Christmas for taking time off from his workshop in order to be able to be with us for the event. We trust that his reindeer are well fed and in good shape.
The Bazaar itself raised over £2,000 with some money still to come in, and the editor wishes it to be known that she is very pleased with the result that flowed from the careful and detailed arrangements of Kay, Jane and the Committee.
A separate thank you must be recorded to those who kindly gave their support by way of donations to the raffle or other stalls and those included: Garden and Pet Direct, Birchall Lane, Hertford who gave a voucher and mystery prize that was auctioned in the traditional manner; Paul Pearson, Esq. who kindly gave a voucher; Riverside Nursery who generously donated a range of plants to the plant stall; the Patisserie section at Waitrose in Hertford who gave a literally staggering amount of scones to the representative from St Mary's who was barely able to carry them. Thanks too to all who gave bottles for the bottle stall. (It seems appropriate at this juncture to thank particularly those supporters who were hidden away in the kitchen preparing refreshments, Christine and David Gorton together with various washer-upers; to Eddy of G S Pickett, butchers at Fleming Crescent, Sele Farm who must have scored as many brownie points from his umpteen yards of sausages over the year as Johnny Wilkinson has scored points from goal kicking; to Simmons the bakers at Fleming Crescent who again supported us with a donation from their excellent bakery, and to Claire from the Welcome Shop at Fleming Crescent who provided a good bottle of red wine for the raffle and whose other special offers will be available to customers very shortly (a good range of wines); to Richard and Sharon from the Prince of Wales who generously donated a three-course Sunday lunch for two people which was sold by Candle Auction; to Frank and Doreen Vigus and the donor of them multi-coloured blanket, hand made, which was sold by Candle Auction.
